COVID POLICY

  • NO REFUNDS WILL BE PROVIDED
  • If the event cannot take place in 2022 due to COVID-19, the participant will have the following options:
    -Free entry in the 2022 Virtual Event and will receive the event t shirt and finisher medal
    OR
    -Entry credit towards the 2023 event, less a $25 admin fee


UPDATE: COVID – 19 Precautions and Considerations

As of November 1, 2021, registered participants who are not fully vaccinated* are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result for a test administered within 72 hours of attending the event. If you have symptoms you must stay home and you should book your test online with the AHS assessment tool or call Health Link at 811.

Official vaccine records are available on MyHealth Records.

Additionally, we request participants wear masks while gathering before and after the race. We are implementing these measures to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers and staff at the event. We are putting these guidelines in place with yuor health and safety in mind.  By implementing mandatory proof of vaccination, it also allows us to be exempt from any current restrictions - this includes allowing us to host mass starts!

We will be following the most updated provincial health guidelines for mass gatherings.

HALF MARATHON & 10KM TEAM DETAILS

  • Teams of 4 runners each
  •  Each Team must register a Team name
  •  All team members must run and complete the half marathon race course to obtain a team time.
  • **THIS IS NOT A RELAY**  All teammembers run together
  •  Team results are calculated by the average time of all 4 individual runners
  •  Each team member will also receive their individual time
  •  If one or more team members are unable to participate or complete the race, then the remaining team members will run as individuals and only receive individual race results. No team time will be available. 

RACE REFUND POLICY

All entries are non-refundable. NO Refunds or Rollovers will be offered for any reason.

EVENT DONATIONS

Proceeds from this race will go to support OSI-CAN through the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Division.

Additional donations can be made with your Online Registration or by Cheque with your Drop Off Entry form.

RACE PACKAGE PICKUP

Saturday, April 30  1:00pm - 5:00pm    Fast Trax Run Shop (7326 101 Avenue NW, Edmonton)
Sunday, May 1     NO race day package pickup.

**In the event that a participant is unable to pick up their race package (i.e. out-of-town participants), the Race Committee will allow a friend or family member to pick up the package on their behalf.
Please email a copy of your vaccination (or negative test result) in advance, or have a copy available for review at package pickup.

RACE DAY INFORMATION

Please arrive early to allow plenty of time for traffic, parking and final preparations at the Start Line.

START LINE LOCATION
Hawrelak Park (9930 Groat Road), just north of the Amphitheatre (the big white tent!)

HOW TO LOCATE HAWRELAK PARK

William Hawrelak Park (originally Mayfair Park) is a 68 hectare park in the river valley featuring a 5 hectare lake and open grassy areas. The park hosts several major festivals and events throughout the year and is a fantastic location for all Edmontonians and visitors to explore.

PARKING

Ample parking is available in Hawrelak Park.  Follow the directions of our parking attendants.  See map for a detailed view.


START LINE SERVICES

Baggage Check

If you need to leave some gear, please provide it to us in a sealed bag/container.  Baggage check will be available next to the start/finish line.

All items checked can be reclaimed with your runner bib.  All unclaimed items will be held until the end of the event..  Unclaimed items will then be donated to a local charity.  Do not give your items to any volunteer except those at the Baggage Check.  Nothing left on the course will be available to reclaim. Multisportscanada and the First Responders Half Marathon are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Washrooms
Portable Toilets will be available just west of the start line.  

Medical
EMS will have a base medical unit available to the west of the Start line.  


RACE STARTS

All athletes are to congregate on the grassed area to the west of the start line.  Athletes will be called to the startline 5 minutes prior to their race start. Please seed yourself accordingly!  Fastest to the front.  Jogging strollers are allowed but must start at the back of the group.

While we have a horn to start the race, your time does not start until you cross the timing mats!

PROHIBITED DEVICES ON COURSE

Wheeled devices are not permitted on course by anyone other than registered and authorized wheelchair and hand cycle participants.   Prohibited devices include but are not limited to walking strollers, roller skates, skateboards, and/or bicycles.  

Selfie sticks, Go Pro’s, camera mounts, video devices and all other mobile devices, while not prohibited, are not recommended on course.  Any damage/loss suffered on course is at owner’s expense.

Music devices are permitted for use on course so long as participants are alert to their surroundings at all times. We recommend that only one headphone is used in order to hear important announcements made on course

SUPPORT ON THE COURSE

All events will be fully supported with water stations, volunteers, and police at major intersections, course marshals to direct runners at turns, and a network of EMS resources and radio operators on the course and at the start and finish.  Water stations will have water and enthusiastic volunteers.

WATER STATIONS

There will be 6 fluid aid stations along the Half Marathon race route, with both water AND sports drink at each station. Aid Stations will be located at the following km markers: 3km, 6km, 10km, 13km, 16km & 19km. The aid station at the 11km mark will also have porta-potties nearby.

RACE FINISH

The course and finish line will be open for 4.5 hours (9am thru 1:30pm).  All participants must maintain a pace no slower than 15 minutes per mile throughout the course in order to be recorded as an official finisher (with time and place).  Early starts are not allowed. The SAG Wagon will signify the end of the field and the maximum 15-minute per mile pace. After crossing the Finish Line, participants will receive a finisher medal, water and plenty of post-race runner food.  


RACE RESULTS

Race Results will be available on the Multisportscanada Trailer and will update regularly throughout the afternoon.  Once you cross the finishline, grab your phone and visit http://resultscanada2017.com/results/ - they will be automatically posted there!  Results will also be emailed out directly to each participant a the finish of the race.  Results will be also be posted on the FirstRespondersHalfMarathon.ca website within 24 hours.

FINISH LINE PROCEDURES

Upon finishing, please continue past the finish area to the finisher foods.  Please notify anyone on staff if you are in need of medical attention at this point.  For the convenience and safety of all participants, please continue moving; no stopping or loitering is allowed. Once you exit the Finish area, there is no re-entry.

AWARDS

Please note that all age group awards are based on chip time, NOT gun time.
All participants will receive a finisher’s medal upon completion. Age Group awards will be provided for the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km events.  Prizing is awarded three (3) deep for each of the following age groups: Under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
