08 Weather & Event Modifications

Rain, Snow or Shine

The First Responders Half Marathon is scheduled to proceed in most weather conditions, including rain, snow and cold temperatures.

Participant, volunteer and public safety will always take priority.

Potential Event Modifications

Multisportscanada and the Race Director reserve the right to delay, shorten, reroute, modify or cancel the event when conditions present an unacceptable safety risk.

Factors may include:

  • Severe storms or lightning
  • Extreme heat or cold
  • Unsafe road and trail conditions
  • Wildfire smoke or poor air quality
  • Natural disasters or public emergencies
  • Government orders or restrictions
  • Other circumstances affecting safe event operations

Where possible, updates will be communicated by email, through the official website or via race-day announcements.

Some decisions may only be possible on race morning.

09 Air Quality & Wildfire Smoke

The health and safety of our participants, volunteers and staff are paramount.

Multisportscanada monitors official air quality reporting, including the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), when wildfire smoke or other pollutants may affect an event.

AQHI Cancellation Threshold: 7 or Greater

An Air Quality Health Index reading of 7 or higher is the event's stated cancellation threshold.

Air Quality Updates

When conditions warrant, an air quality update will be provided approximately 72 hours before the scheduled event.

Because air quality can change rapidly, a final decision may be made on race morning using the latest readings, forecasts and safety assessments.

Official Air Quality Resources

10 Cancellation & Force Majeure

Events may be affected by circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the organizer.

These circumstances may include:

  • Natural disasters
  • Extreme or dangerous weather
  • Wildfire smoke or unsafe air quality
  • Public health emergencies
  • Government restrictions or orders
  • Labour disruptions
  • Other extraordinary circumstances

These circumstances are commonly referred to as force majeure events.

Cancellation Decisions

Multisportscanada reserves the right to cancel, postpone, modify or discontinue an event when necessary for safety, legal compliance or operational reasons.

Refunds Following Cancellation

Registration Fees Are Non-Refundable

Due to substantial expenses incurred in advance of race day, registration fees are non-refundable in the event of cancellation.

Event merchandise already produced may be made available to registered participants. Distribution arrangements will be communicated by the event organizers.

Any discretionary discounts or alternative registration arrangements will be communicated directly to affected participants.

11 Sportsmanship & Community

The First Responders Half Marathon is built on a commitment to community, respect and sportsmanship.
